Beginning on October 1, 2012, the Perth Mint will make available the long-awaited 2013 1 Kilo Gold Perth Mint Kangaroo Coin.
Weighing in at a whopping 32.15 ounces, this impressive Australian gold coin will impress coin collectors and gold investors alike.
Of all of the 2013 Perth Mint releases, the one kilo coin will be the only one featuring the classic Kangaroo design on the reverse (back of coin). Smaller gold kangaroo coins will display a kangaroo in the foreground, with a background conveying an Australian bush scene.
The Kangaroo series of gold bullion coins has regularly changed the design every year since since 1990. Prior to 1989, the coins did not reflect an image of a kangaroo. Instead, starting in 1986 the image was of gold nuggets. Not surprisingly, the gold coins were simply known as the “Australian Nugget” series. This changed upon the introduction of the Gold Australian Kangaroo. I think most people would agree that images of kangaroos are more interesting than an ever-changing depiction of a pile of gold nuggets.
This coin has a face value of 3,000 Australian Dollars.
